Desperate House Dems
The democrats really are desperate. Five months after losing everything, again, the democrats have taken their four year old policy of obstruction and hindrance to new heights. Apparently unable to “MoveOn” from the 1998 impeachment of Bill Clinton, they have once again resorted to the politics of personal destruction in order to disguise that they have no other legislative agenda to offer the electorate. Given the foot-dragging tactics they’ve employed since their historic 2000 defeat, it should come as a surprise to no one that their new target is a man named DeLay.
The House Majority Leader has been in the democrats’ sights for years. In 2003, a proposed redistricting plan somehow attributed to DeLay was attacked by democrats in Congress and the Texas State Legislature as gerrymandering. This coming from the party that created a congressional district out of a portion of a
Now, seeing their political relevance flash before their eyes, democrats have turned up the heat on DeLay, cataloging a litany of allegations they themselves have committed from the vague to the outlandish. One such charge alleges DeLay did not “conduct himself at all times in a manner which shall reflect creditably on the House of Representatives.” Really! This from the party of Abscam, James Wright, Gary Condit, and James Trafficant, just to name a few. Tom DeLay also allegedly took money from lobbyists representing the
We truly have reached the point in the democrats’ ailing life in the minority where party members are so desperate to have their names said on television that they will say and do anything. Unable to win votes on Election Day, democrats are hoping they can strike down republican senators and congressmen on phony ethics charges. In addition, democrats are hoping these ethics probes can distract voters from the fact that their party doesn’t have a message or anything to offer them except more allegations and ethics probes. The American people have an important role to play in all of this as well. The best way to deal with the democrats’ attacks on Tom DeLay is to deal with them the same way people did when democrats launched personal attacks against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, Rice, Wolfowitz, Ashcroft, Bolton, or anybody else in any way connected to the Bush administration, past, present, or future. unlike other nasty infections, democrats typically go away if you ignore them.
While these amateurish attacks against members of the republican leadership can be annoying as well as unworthy for even USG members, they have also proven to be quite helpful to the Republican Party itself. If Fahrenheit 9/11, MoveOn.org, and

If the Democrats are unable to "MoveOn" from Clinton's impeachment, then how come the Republicans are always the ones bringing it up? It goes to show what the true Republican agenda is: "If all else fails, blame Clinton."

In 2003, a proposed redistricting plan somehow attributed to DeLay was attacked by democrats in Congress and the Texas State Legislature as gerrymandering. This coming from the party that created a congressional district out of a portion of a North Carolina interstate. (snip) Even if DeLay drew up the map himself, gerrymandering is not a crime. Far from it, gerrymandering is an American political tradition that has been endorsed and even mandated by the United States Supreme Court.
So? Just because it's not illegal doesn't make it an honorable thing to do. Especially if the White House's goal is trying to "reach out" to detractors. And the Carolina Interstate thing goes to show that the Democrats aren't the pack of angels the rest of the party makes them out to be. There are good and bad Republicans, and there are good and bad Democrats.

News flash: It's not just the Democrats who are concerned about Tom DeLay's ethics problems. Just ask GOP Connecticut Representative Chris Shays. "Tom's conduct is hurting the Republican Party, is hurting this Republican majority and it is hurting any Republican who is up for re-election. My party is going to have to decide whether we are going to continue to make excuses for Tom to the detriment of Republicans seeking election." () Even Rick Santorum, the No. 3 Republican, said that DeLay needs to tell the American people exactly what he did so that they can decide for themselves. Granted he did say that he thought that what DeLay has done was legal.
And think about it for a second: If he's completely cleared of ethics violations under the Democrat's rules, just think of the boost that would give you Republicans. That would make most Democrats think twice before throwing around any ethics violations, whether true or not. What have you got to lose? Or are you afraid that DeLay might really have been unethical and that another powerhouse Republican will have his name sullied and his political career terminated?
Oh, and we did win votes on Election day. Fifty-six million of them. Granted it was not enough to defeat Bush, but that doesn't mean that we're going to roll over and die, or even just stay in the background. Remember, when the Republicans lost the White House to Clinton in 1992, you guys didn't give up, controlling the Congress in 1994. I'm sure the Democrats back then said that you were an irrelevant party back then, and look where you are now.
You need us. Because if we weren't around, who would you blame all of America's problems on? Oh yeah, I forgot: the "activist judges" would still be around. Never mind.
